Organisation for Transgender People in Third World Countries* PDF Print E-mail

Transgender people constitute a marginalised minority, present in virtually all societies, in all parts of the world. Their marginalisation is often accompanied by persecution, discrimination, humiliation, ridicule, exclusion, and often violence. Unlike many other marginalised minorities in developing and transitional countries, their numbers are very few, with estimates ranging from 0.25% to 1%

The larger society often will not tolerate transgender people’s efforts to be authentic to their own Gender identity consciousness. In many developing and transitional countries, governments as well as social and religious institutions and the general public are openly hostile to the entire lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, and know little or nothing about the “T” in LGBT.

LGBTI Organisations Get A Voice At The United Nations PDF Print E-mail

The organisation became the 10th organisation working for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) human rights to gain this status.
