Zama Xulu is youngest child of Mr and Mrs Xulu. Born and bred in Pietermaritzburg, Zama attended various schools in KwaZulu Natal finishing his matric in Vryheid Comprehensive High School. He studied in Natal Technikon where he completed his National Diploma and his Bachelor of Technology Degree in Civil Engineering. After working for five years in Pietermaritzburg, Zama moved to Tshwane (Pretoria) in 2003 and has since been working for various Consulting Engineers around Tshwane (Pretoria) and Johannesburg while also furthering his studies at the University of the Witwatersrand. Zama completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Civil Engineering specialising in Water and Hydraulics Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand and is currently doing a research project for his Msc in the same field with Wits. Zama is a transgender man who is very passionate about his family and his career, and with the vision of changing people’s perceptions on gender issues.
