"When a child is born, the midwife or doctor looks at the baby's genitals and declares it a boy or a girl accordingly. In most cases, this method of assigning gender at birth fits the person without any problems. However, a person's gender is actually quite complicated and as a result this simple method of assigning gender doesn't always work.

Chicago: When it comes to gender, Alex Polanco is not easily pegged. Some days, he wakes up in the morning and feels male, pulling on jeans and a T-shirt and leaving it at that. Other times, he wears makeup and one of the wigs he keeps in tidily packed boxes in his bedroom closet.

I’ve got to be honest with you this evening.  I am a bit nervous.  People sometimes ask me if I get nervous before I preach, and usually I tell them “not such much nervous as expectant, but maybe a little nervous.”  Today, I can say that I am nervous, and I am nervous for a few reasons.  First, I am in a new place with new poeple and not in the comfort zone of my old familiar pulpit back in Tennessee.  Secondly, stepping into a pulpit on any given Sunday is a bit like jumping out of an airplane.  Once I am up here, I am up here--with only the wind of the Holy Spirit buoying up my Scriptural parachute, hoping against hope that I land in one piece. Of course, I pray and study and prepare my manuscript with great detail and forethought, but the end result is always God’s doing, not mine, and that is a bit frightening.

Choosing to Transition PDF Print E-mail

In the past few months since my decision to start transitioning I have come to the realization that many people think that this decision is not well thought through and somewhat ill conceived. I think that many of us transsexuals encounter this type of attitude from many who do not fully understand just what it takes to come to this decision. Maybe through this article I can cast a bit of light on what it takes and to dispel some of the misunderstandings, confusion and prejudices we have to face.
